Kudos to culinary arts program
I had the pleasure of attending the annual auction/fundraiser for the Yukon Quest Saturday evening. As is customary, the culinary arts students and Luis Martinez provided an array of tasty tidbits for everyone to enjoy. It’s great training and the students engaged with the public quite well. I’m so glad that UAF continues to support … Continue reading Kudos to culinary arts program

Cornerstone newsletter
When did the Cornerstone email newsletter change to daily emails? I remember it used to be bi-weekly, then weekly and then there was a “light” version for more pressing things between editions. I support admin being transparent and communicative but I don’t have time to review all the fluff pieces daily. I can only speak … Continue reading Cornerstone newsletter

Reading of names on Veterans Day
With Veterans Day falling on a Sunday this year when will the name reading take place? I saw there was an event on Monday, November 12, but didn’t see anything about the name reading. Thanks.

Install an EV charging station on campus
Hello, there are an increasing number of people that own either full EV or extended range hybrid cars here in Fairbanks (I have a Chevy Volt).  However, there are very few options for rapid (level 2) charging of those EVs.  It would be great for UAF to have at least one parking spot (probably in … Continue reading Install an EV charging station on campus

Women’s sizes at the bookstore
Why are the women’s clothes at the bookstore sized so small? I usually wear a size small at other stores but at the bookstore I have to buy a large and even that is pretty fitted. Any woman size 12 or higher pretty much can’t buy women’s clothes there. And men’s shirts just don’t fit … Continue reading Women’s sizes at the bookstore

When do the health care rebates come out?
Are the health care “rebates” still on track to come out in November? Any specific date/payroll run? Wanting to confirm we will receive both employee and spouse rebates in the same check. Thanks for any update you have.

Stairs behind Mac
Hello. I know it does not really matter but I am curious what the thought process / logic was around the lengths of the steps behind MacIntosh (that staircase between Mac and Nerland). I am 5′ 8” so probably a little higher than average height and I either have to stretch my legs really far … Continue reading Stairs behind Mac

Old monster films at museum
Is the museum going to be showing old monster films around Halloween again this year? Last year was so entertaining and the speakers were great. I think hosting a viewing regardless of whether or not we could get speakers would be fun and festive as well.

Leadership and degrees
Many people in leadership positions at UAF have no college degree. How are we supposed to convey the message that a college degree is vital and increase our enrollment numbers when many of our own leaders don’t even have degrees?

Is there a plan to deal with the pigeons on campus?
I have noticed that the pigeons on campus have really done well over the last year. Their numbers have doubled or more. There was a lot of droppings in the area between Eielson and Gruening this summer. I can only imagine the damage they are doing to the roof of Gruening. So I was wondering … Continue reading Is there a plan to deal with the pigeons on campus?

Clock in Regents’ Great Hall
Question 1: I love the new remodeled large foyer area in the Fine Arts Building — the area in front of the Davis Concert Hall. East side of Gruening Building
I am very hopeful that before icy weather is here, the sidewalk on the east side of the Gruening Building will be cleaned of the excess bird droppings and feathers that have accumulated in the last few weeks. I try to avoid that area, but I am concerned about the unhygienic conditions and also about … Continue reading East side of Gruening Building

Retirement of older faculty
One way to save money and invigorate the UAF faculty with new assistant professors is to support the retirement of older full professors with their subsidized health insurance they are on when they are faculty. Unfortunately, with COBRA over $18,000 per year for two adults, the high cost of health insurance is keeping these older … Continue reading Retirement of older faculty

Duckering steps
The concrete stairs leading to the back door of Duckering (from the Taku parking lot) are falling apart. Ribar is exposed and they are tilted at a weird angle. It would be nice if they got replaced soon. Thanks!

UAF Day at Tanana Valley Fair
I am thoroughly disappointed in the UAF support/showing at the Tanana Valley Fair this year on UAF Day. Where were all of the schools and colleges? Why did they not have any thing for the kids to do? As a UAF employee I was embarrassed for UAF.

Cross-country ski team training
Last year, as in years past, I noticed that the UAF Cross Country Ski Team does training on the highways outside of the Fairbanks area. Broken step by the library

Good job, Student Activities
The UAF Student Activities has put on some fun programming in the last several months. They have done a great job with activities that do not require a huge amount of engagement or commitment which I think opens the door for broader participation. Way to go!

Will there be a COLA salary increase for FY19?
Is the university planning a cost-of-living adjustment salary increase for non-union employees in the upcoming fiscal year?
