Retirement of older faculty
One way to save money and invigorate the UAF faculty with new assistant professors is to support the retirement of older full professors with their subsidized health insurance they are on when they are faculty. Unfortunately, with COBRA over $18,000 per year for two adults, the high cost of health insurance is keeping these older … Continue reading Retirement of older faculty

Problem with Ballaine parking lot entrance
My car bottomed out as I entered the freshly redone Ballaine parking lot. The parking lot looks awesome, but that water drain feature is WAY too deep.

Nice flowers and herbs
I was very impressed this year with the flower pots around campus that also featured herbs. They were very complementary and interesting together!

Duckering steps
The concrete stairs leading to the back door of Duckering (from the Taku parking lot) are falling apart. Ribar is exposed and they are tilted at a weird angle. It would be nice if they got replaced soon. Thanks!

UAF Day at Tanana Valley Fair
I am thoroughly disappointed in the UAF support/showing at the Tanana Valley Fair this year on UAF Day. Where were all of the schools and colleges? Why did they not have any thing for the kids to do? As a UAF employee I was embarrassed for UAF.

Totem pole question
Do you have any idea when the beautiful totem pole that used to reside near the top of the steel stairs in back of the new engineering building will be put back in place? Cross-country ski team training
Last year, as in years past, I noticed that the UAF Cross Country Ski Team does training on the highways outside of the Fairbanks area. What I don’t understand is why do they do training out on the Steese Highway right in the middle of hunting season? This highway is very busy during the first … Continue reading Cross-country ski team training

Question about Dean of Students office
What reorganization is happening at the Dean of Students Office? Everyone knows that there have been some personnel changes but there has been no clear announcement about a reorganization. Are they still functioning in the same manner or should students be referred elsewhere for assistance with previous DOS matters?

Broken step by the library
I imagine that Facilities is aware of the outdoor broken concrete step near the bottom of the staircase at the back receiving dock of the library. I say this because there is a fluorescent orange circle painted around the defective step. I first noticed it in early June. I can see that many repairs and … Continue reading Broken step by the library

Good job, Student Activities
The UAF Student Activities has put on some fun programming in the last several months. They have done a great job with activities that do not require a huge amount of engagement or commitment which I think opens the door for broader participation. Way to go!

Rasmuson computers
While using the computers at the Rasmuson Library, I noticed email accounts will remain resident in the browser if not deleted after a session.  And have further witnessed an email account open when I used the terminal. Why is director of Wood Center such a high salary?
I saw the posting for director of Wood Center is listed as salary grade 83. Why is this position so much higher then other director positions on campus? Will there be a COLA salary increase for FY19?
Is the university planning a cost-of-living adjustment salary increase for non-union employees in the upcoming fiscal year? I was part of the Heart Walk on May 12 as a member of the university team and I am disappointed in the organization of the team. Skillsoft, employee online learning
Question 1: Why has the UA system discontinued the subscription to SkillSoft? I was hoping to take some of the lessons or assign them to staff, but now that option seems closed to us. 2018 food trucks?
Any chance we’ll be getting a variety of food trucks back on campus this summer? Food pickins are slim especially on West Ridge these days, and a hot dog cart (or pitas, or BBQ, or any other options) sure would make my summer more delicious! The food cart page (http://www.uaf.edu/dining/meal-plans/summer-dining/food-trucks/) says to check back for … Continue reading 2018 food trucks?

Duplicate staff longevity between statewide and UAF
Recently I attended both the Statewide and UAF longevity awards. I noticed that several individuals were recognized and awarded at both events. However, this does not appear to be the case for all … Continue reading Duplicate staff longevity between statewide and UAF

How often does UA increase the contribution amount toward employee pensions?
I generally like the UA pension plan; I like being able to chose my own investments and I like that I will be 100 percent vested after three years. My concern is the university’s contribution does not scale after an employee reaches a gross income of $42,000. I understand PERS/TERS does scale with income; my … Continue reading How often does UA increase the contribution amount toward employee pensions?

Grapevine posting dates
I’ve noticed over the last six months that new Grapevine answers show up with a date earlier than when they actually appeared on the website. Staff involvement
I noticed that the same staff are always involved on committees, projects or info groups. Please consider involving staff that are not front and center all the time. Where can I find a detailed UAF budget spreadsheet?
The Bursar’s Office used to post detailed financial spreadsheets on their website, e.g. UAF-Subledger-Report-by-Dept.xlsx, but I can no longer find them.
