More student involvement
Why is there not more student involvement on committees? Looking over the faculty senate website and the committee make-ups,  the Graduate Affairs Committee is the only committee that has student representatives. Why not the Curricular Affairs Committee or the General Education Requirement Committee?

I heard a rumor that the university has begun the process of rekeying the entire university. Is this true? How much is that going to cost, in terms of labor and equipment? Why is this necessary to do now, in the current budget climate?

Meetings in the Pub are not inclusive
How does an advertisement in the Cornerstone asking for people to use the Pub for work events encourage a culture of inclusiveness? There are many recovering alcoholics on campus and encouraging departments to have work environments where alcohol is present is insensitive at best and potentially disruptive to people’s careers where they might have to […]

Trees along South Chandalar Drive
Are the trees lining South Chandalar Drive a type of elm? Also, does anyone know who planted the trees and when?

Yearly cost of OIPC
Maybe the question about the yearly cost of the office of intellectual property and commercialization was not clear. Forget the cost of materials, travel, etc. though I am sure that is a line item for the office? What is the total yearly salary and benefits commitment to the office based on the staff-faculty listed on […]

Confusing enrollment data
I’m very confused about the UAF enrollment data: The UAF enrollment numbers (2710) and decline (234) % decline (8%) do not match the totals under Fairbanks campus. Same applies to UAA. Is this a spreadsheet error or some hidden math?

What is the money gained from parking tickets used for?
Question 1: I’ve always wondered what Parking Services did with the money gained from parking tickets. Questions 2: I have asked this question many times with no clear answer. When the university is charging people $25 – $65 a citation I would like to know what that money is used for because it’s certainly not […]

Lack of customer service at UAF Travel
What is going on with UAF Travel? It would be great to have UAF Travel go under one entity as the UA HR system is doing. It would be nice to see that level of quality return as well as consistency! Since the turnover of one employee to 2-4 travel employees, customer service is no longer […]

Fundraising and matching funds
UAF supports the Heart Walk but I am interested in supporting a national fundraising group that is more pertinent to my experience. Many national fundraisers speak about matching funds from your employer. Does UAF match funds? If not, why not?

Cost of commercialization
Q1: How much has UAF spent over the last 8 years on staff, services, lawyers, patents, materials, etc on commercialization to “make” $125,000 in commercialization-invention fees ($16,000 a year on average). Q2: In the last 8 years UAF has brought in a total of $125,000 in commercialization fees. How much have we spent on related […]

Photoshop CS6 (64 bit)
On Friday, April 19, I noticed that Photoshop (via the UAF key server) began acting much differently than it usually does. I work with it frequently, so I am quite familiar. Has  there been a recent upgrade, or something else that would cause this to happen? If so, is there a way I can return […]

Budget reductions and a hockey arena
On Wednesday the chancellor posted a budget memo telling all units to plan for a reduction of 10 percent of the total state appropriated general fund in their authority. The very next day, KTVF posted a story about the plan for the UAF Nanook hockey team games to be moved onto campus permanently within the […]

Pool size
During a recent lap swim at the Patty Center, I overheard that the length of the pool was 25 yards (so said a staff or lifeguard). This left me…puzzled. Aren’t most swimming competitions measured in meters? I fear that a pool measuring in yards is potentially an odd barrier for local sports in an event […]

What are the fall 2019 enrollment numbers?
At this time does the university have a number for students that will start this fall 2019? Is that number broken down into entering freshmen, transfers and graduate students?

Why the change to Staff Day
I have looked forward to the varied classes offered to staff to participate in and was disappointed to see the current lectures offered. I think you will find that the attendance will be a large decrease. This used to be a fun time to try out different subjects and now all I hear is how […]

End-of-semester surveys
Q1: Why are end of semester surveys due days before the class ends and grades are due? In my experience, often the last few days of class as well as final grade outcomes are crucial and include important information that should be provided on the survey but the deadline has already passed. Q2: I have […]

Reindeer program on campus
Someone told me that the reindeer program on campus is being eliminated. I hope this isn’t true because they are one of the factors that make us unique and they bring a lot of visitors to campus.

Data breach? Why are we hearing this from FDNM now?
Has UAF (the community) been informed of this data breach before, as a whole? Will there be something in the Cornerstone about this tomorrow?

Athletics budget cuts
In years past the BOR has looked into the athletics programs at UAA and UAF as a source of potential cuts to save the University system money. In following along with proposed funding levels and cuts to the UA system(once again) I have not heard about the athletic programs being a potential source of savings. […]

Are the end of course surveys for the classes actually anonymous?
Are the end of course surveys for the classes actually anonymous? I’m just wondering if the teacher can actually see which student wrote what.

Is the staff morale survey anonymous?
I see that the staff morale survey was sent out this morning. Is it truly anonymous? I am already hearing that staff do not want to fill it out because they are afraid their answers will be traced back to them.

A big thank-you to UAF police
I would like to say thank you to those police officers who walk through our buildings with a smile. They not only promote a safe environment but a friendly one as well. I hope to see more community engagement opportunities and more friendly faces.
